The Ogle County board approved a new fiscal year budget last night that did not include any layoffs at the present time.
The budgeted appropriation totals just under 39 million dollars with the General Fund at 14.4 million dollars.
The levy for the county is expected to be at 12.6 million dollars.
Finance and Insurance committee chairman Greg Sparrow of Rochelle said they got a balanced budget by doing several things. It included a hiring freeze and borrowing around $740,000 from the Solid Waste fund.
Sparrow said that the difference from last year's budget is around $740,000 less. He said the goal was not to cut any positions in the county at this time.
The board hired an architect for the new county jail. The facility is expected to cost between 25 to 28 million dollars with 180 to 200 prisoners.
No agreement has been reached between the City of Oregon and Ogle County officials on the future of 6th Street. The county had hoped to close the street between Washington and Jefferson Streets for a sally port that would connect the new jail to the Judicial Center.
The health insurance premium was approved last night. The Probation Department has also moved into the new Emergency Operations Center building in downtown Rochelle.
The Ogle County Health Department has yet to located in the facility.
There was 1 resignation last night. Maynard Stivers of Leaf River is no longer on the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The board also approved a resolution making it "Gregory Wood" day this Saturday in Ogle County. The 19-year old died in a house fire on November 10th. Wood was a fireman with the Leaf River Department.
