Teen in court for the first time in Oregon shooting

A 16-year old boy from Mt. Morris appeared in Ogle County court yesterday for the first time following a shooting in Oregon early Monday morning.

The teen has been arrested with the felony charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a stolen gun, and reckless discharge of a firearm. The boy has also been charged with possession of a gun without a firearm owner's identification card.

The shooting took place at an apartment at 408 1/2 West Washington Street in Oregon. A 20-year old white male was shot in the abdomen. He received treatment for a gun shot wound at KSB Hospital in Dixon.

Police determined that the 16-year had accidently shot the victim while displaying a stolen hand gun in the apartment.

The teen will remain in the juvenile facility in Kane County until further orders from the court. He returns before a judge for a status hearing on January 18th in Oregon.

The Oregon Police Department is trying to locate the owner of the stolen .45 caliber semi-automatic hand gun that may have been stolen from a vehicle in Oregon in the past year.

If you are missing this type of a gun, please contact the Oregon Police Department at 732-2803.
