The Rochelle Township High School board plans to make a decision this evening on withdrawing from the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference after the 2018-19 school year.
The meeting begins at 5:30 in the superintendent's office.
The proposal would have RTHS leaving the conference along with Ottawa, LaSalle-Peru, Morris, and Geneseo. The schools would join the Interstate 8 Conference that would also include Plano and Sandwich.
RTHS Principal Chris Lewis said that the key reasons behind the new conference for RTHS include enrollment, competitive balance, and travel.
At the present time, the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference also includes Kaneland, Sycamore, DeKalb, Sterling, and Yorkville.
This would be Rochelle's third conference since they left the NCIC. They were also a member of the former Western Sun Conference.
This is their 8th season in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference.
Tonight's agenda also includes a budget update, resignations and employment in the district, and an executive session to talk about personnel.
The RTHS board meeting is open to the public.
