STEWARD - Rochelle, Ogle-Lee, Creston, and Steward Fire Departments were called around 7:30 AM Wednesday morning south of the Steward exit on I-39 for a three vehicle crash. Two individuals suffered significant injuries in the incident, which involved a minivan, a sedan and a pickup towing a trailer. Both southbound lanes were briefly blocked as crews worked to transport the injured. One occupant was taken via ambulance to a Rockford hospital with what was described as non-life threatening injuries, and another individual was taken by Lifeflight Helicopter to Rockford in serious condition. Due to the number of vehicles involved, multiple agencies were called using the box alarm system. Oregon, Stillman Valley, Lynn-Scott-Rock, Dekalb, Malta, Shabbona, Byron and Ashton/Franklin Grove Fire Departments and EMS were paged to the scene. Three other passengers and drivers refused treatment. The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
