Polo Proposes Facade Grant Improvement Program

POLO - The City of Polo has proposed using Business Development District Funds to start a matching facade grant improvement program. At the City Council meeting on Monday night, it was explained that the grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and will be limited to one application per business or building, per fiscal year, for those located in the Polo Business Development District. The BDD was created in January of 2023, and encompasses most of the business areas in the city. Properties will only be eligible to receive a grant once every 5 years. The grant would cover such improvements like paint, awnings, tuck pointing, doors, windows, roof repairs, or ADA compliance. The grant will reimburse a maximum amount of 25% of the cost, up to $5,000 a year. The wording of the facade program notes that anyone awarded funds will be subject to refunding the city a portion of the grant if they sell the property within five years of the grant being awarded. The council is expected to vote on the proposal in May.
