BYRON - The Byron City Council on Wednesday approved changes and adjustments to their ordinances concerning raffles to bring them more in line with the Illinois code. They changed language regarding poker runs, and set the maximum duration for a raffle from six months to a year. In an effort to help promote the ever popular ‘Queen of Hearts’ type drawings, they raised the prize amount allowed up to $1 Million. They added a fee structure for raffles, and empowered the chief of police to terminate any raffle for the sake of public safety after a seven day notice.
