Rockford Business Owner Wants to Bring Pedal Bar to Byron

BYRON - A Rockford business owner wants to bring an interactive transportation attraction to Byron. The owner of Meridian Nursery, Robb Firch, from Winnebago, and his partner Brad Bull in the endeavor, submitted a proposal to the city to bring a “Pedal Bike Bar'', a vehicle where the up to 15 on board pedal to provide power while the operator steers and operates the brakes. The proposal would allow those who are taking part in the ride to bring their own canned alcohol to consume, but they would not be able to take drinks off the Pedal Bar or bring open containers from restaurants on board.

Firch said that these are currently operating in Chicago, Peoria, and more places across the country.

“Byron is such a good fit” Firch note, “because they have a lot of different restaurants to stop at, and establishments for people to get on and off at. We’re just so, so excited.”

The City Council raised a number of questions, including routes and permit issues. City Manager Brian Books suggested having the business owner attend an upcoming Administration meeting to answer questions directly from the council.

Firch would like to bring this to other communities as well and expand it beyond just adults drinking alcohol, but also for families and kids for trips to parks or for ice cream.
