Water Main Project in Hillcrest to Start in June

HILLCREST - The $1.2 million water main replacement project in Hillcrest will be starting in early June. At the Wednesday night Village Board meeting, Kaitlin A. Wright, Infrastructure Project Engineer with Baxter & Woodman Consulting Engineers, provided a timeline update. She said that construction should start on June 3rd installing over five-thousand feet of pipe, 13 fire hydrants, and more. Wright noted that during the project water lines to residences will be inspected on the route, and if they are discovered to be lead, they would notify the resident and try to encourage replacement.

“Through this project they could get the service line replaced at no cost to them,” Wright said, “since the village is using state funds to execute the replacement.”

Half the cost of the water main endeavor would be paid for by a forgivable loan from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency through the State Revolving Fund, The Public Water Supply Loan Program, leaving the village paying around $610,000. Wright expected the project to be completed in early September.

The proposed construction consists of replacing existing water main with approximately 2,335 feet of 12-inch water main, 2,272 feet of 8-inch water main, 20 feet of 6-inch water main, 32 feet of 4-inch water main, 20 gate valves, 16 valve boxes, 6 valve vaults, 13 fire hydrants, 2 pressure connections, 6 non-pressure connections, abandonment of existing water main, and surface restoration.
